Illiopolis is a small village located in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Illiopolis was 891 people. The village is located approximately 16 miles southeast of Springfield, the state capital of Illinois. The area was first settled in the early 19th century by European immigrants, and the village was officially incorporated in 1904. Principal economic activities in Illiopolis include agriculture and the production of ethanol. The village is served by the Illiopolis School District and has several parks and recreational areas including the Sangamon River and the Sangamon County Conservation Area. The village also hosts an annual community celebration called Illiopolis Sesquicentennial Celebration in honor of its 150th anniversary.
